Single-Pitch, Introduction to Rock Climbing

The Lake District is known as the birthplace of traditional rock climbing. With its wide variety of climbing routes, crags and buttresses to choose from, it’s the perfect setting for making your first moves on the rock.

Exped Adventure’s experienced climbing instructors will teach you all of the basic climbing skills in our introductory rock climbing courses. With 1:2 instruction, you’ll experience climbing in the Lake District in a safe way under the direct supervision of our expert instructors. On the highly accessible crags of the Lake District you will learn the essential skills of rope work and belaying – and most importantly you’ll get to do lots of climbing.

The Lake District has excellent single-pitch crags, with popular venues in Langdale, Eskdale and Borrowdale. Short walk-ins, great settings and a variety of routes are what we aim for during this course.

You will learn about:

  • use of equipment (harness, ropes and belay devices)
  • footwear
  • tying into the rope
  • climbing moves
  • abseiling
  • belaying and lowering
  • geology
