Evening Paddle on the River Dart by Canoe (Min 6)

£35

The evening paddle by canoe is an opportunity to have an unusual evening where you slow down and experience the natural world on the water as it moves from day to night. The fading light… bird-sound, silence, bats, moonlight, darkness. We set off in the daylight and paddle for an hour or so upstream, gathering firewood on the way. Pitching up on the river bank, some hearty soup around the fire, and if our storyteller is on board, a river tale or two. We paddle back as night falls to the sound of the owls, and only our night vision to guide us.

Campfire stew included.

For all trips you’ll want to be wearing right gear for the weather conditions: Dress up extra warm if it’s going to be colder, bring a rain coat if it might be wet, loose cotton for hot weather… Loose fitting clothes are much more comfortable for canoeing than tight fitting. For your feet old trainers or crocs are good. Don’t wear flip flops or wellies. For  multiday trips you will be provided with a 60 litre watertight plastic barrel in which to put all your gear. Even if you fall in the river (which is highly unlikely) all your gear will stay dry!

Evening Paddle: Bowl and spoon. Torch, Wear shoes that can get wet (i.e. old trainers/boots/crocs). Waterproofs in case of wet weather. Water bottle.

“With the minimum of fuss, Nick enabled us to explore the enticing beauty of the Dart. The shimmering reflections, the sighting of a kingfisher, the ease with which a tasty supper was served from a firebowl & watching the storyteller’s face in the firelight as he recounted the very ancient & fearsome myth. Then the silent paddle homewards, feeling liberated by our night eyes ability to follow the silvery pathway between the shadows. Back in the city we will always remember our venture into the owl’s domain..Thank you!” (Sheilah – London)
